Fleet 10 – Chesapeake Bay, Maryland

J80 Fleet 10 represents the Chesapeake Bay Area centralized around Annapolis Maryland with one of the strongest fleets in the North American Class with a solid number of boats including some from the J/World Sailing School. J/World offers sailboat handling, racing and basic training courses on J80s.

Good evening Fleet 10,

I hope everyone is having a great week and is ready for the weekend! For those of you who have been out and about at AYC Frostbites this winter, it’s been nice to see many of you on the water! I can’t wait for the exciting year of sailing we have ahead of us and hope to see many of you back out on the water soon!

Linked above is the Chesapeake Fleet 10 overall schedule. It contains two sheets – first, a high-level overview of class events, and second, a more detailed day-by-day view that captures all event dates and lay days for the various series.

Owner response requested by Sunday 2/27: Please confirm if you intend to participate in the AYC Spring One Design Regatta on Saturday, April 30th.

The AYC Spring One Design Regatta is a new event for Fleet 10 that AYC is considering adding at the request of one of our fleet members. AYC Race Committee will decide during a meeting next week, but I’d like to confirm for them that we have five boats planning to participate in advance of their meeting. Please reply.

Fleet 10 will also be featured in the upcoming CBYRA Green Book which will be published in early March. Our page is linked here for your preview. There will be 9 High Point Events this season. We are aware of the conflict with the J/80 Worlds, but wanted to include the Fall Series for those who may not plan to be in Newport. 

We will be sharing details in coming weeks around social activities in addition to those hosted by the individual clubs. Please let us know if you’re interested in hosting or helping to plan any social activities this year.

You will soon receive a request to pay your 2022 dues from our Fleet Treasurer, Brad King. Please do so promptly and let us know if you have any questions.

Chesapeake Fleet 10 Secretary

Dan, Brad, and I first want to sincerely thank Eunice Lin for graciously volunteering in 2021 as our Fleet Secretary. She was an incredible member of our team and we will truly miss her support.

For 2022, we are in search of a member of the fleet to join our leadership team as our new secretary. Please let us know if you are willing and interested!

ECCs, North Americans, and Worlds

As you’ll see on our overall schedule, we’ve included the East Coast Championship, North American Championship, and World Championship dates and registration links. We encourage everyone to register and participate in what is sure to be an excellent series of events later this year.

Registration is now open for North Americans and Worlds. If you are not able to participate, you can list your boat as available for charter on the world’s website – https://j80worlds2022.com/. The NAs and Worlds will be held as back-to-back events.  If you do both events, you will be permitted to store your boat at Sail Newport for the duration and only one measurement will be required. East Coast Championships will be hosted by Beverly Yacht Club in Marion, Massachusetts, Sept 10-11, 2022. ECCs will be done by owner declaration, so for all three events there will be only one measurement.
